FBI Investigates Deaths of Multiple Scientists Linked to NASA and Space Companies

Federal authorities are investigating the deaths and disappearances of at least 11 researchers connected to NASA, SpaceX, and Blue Origin, sparking concerns about potential national security threats.

The House Oversight Committee formally requested information from multiple federal agencies Monday regarding the incidents. The pattern has drawn attention from the highest levels of government, including the White House and FBI leadership.

Government Response Intensifies

President Trump acknowledged the situation during remarks to reporters, stating, “I don’t know. Hopefully, coincidence, whatever you want to call it. But some of them were very important people,” and promised answers within days.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed the administration’s concern during an official briefing, saying “If true, of course, that’s definitely something I think this government and administration would deem worth looking into.”

In a subsequent post on X, Leavitt revealed the administration “is actively working with all relevant agencies and the FBI to holistically review all of the cases together and identify any potential commonalities that may exist.”

FBI Spearheading Investigation

FBI leadership confirmed an active investigation into potential connections between the cases. “We’re going to look for connections on whether there are connections to classified access, access to classified information, and or foreign actors,” officials told Fox News.

The bureau emphasized its coordinated approach, stating it “is spearheading the effort to look for connections into the missing and deceased scientists. We are working with the Department of Energy, Department of War, and with our state and local law enforcement partners to find answers.”

FBI officials indicated that any evidence of criminal conduct would result in appropriate action, saying “If there’s any connections that lead to nefarious conduct or conspiracy, this FBI will make the appropriate arrest.”

NASA’s Position and Sector Concerns

NASA stated it “is coordinating and cooperating with the relevant agencies in relation to the missing scientists” while noting that “nothing related to NASA indicates a national security threat.” The agency pledged transparency as the investigation proceeds.

The Oversight Committee’s focus extends beyond NASA to the broader commercial space and defense sectors where these individuals worked. Experts highlight that specialized fields like planetary defense and nuclear research maintain relatively small professional communities.

In March 2026, Blue Origin unveiled its NEO Hunter concept, a planetary defense initiative developed with Jet Propulsion Laboratory and the California Institute of Technology.
