Ashley Biden, the daughter of former President Joe Biden, has initiated divorce proceedings from her husband of over a decade in Pennsylvania.

The 44-year-old submitted legal documentation to Philadelphia’s Court of Common Pleas on Monday, marking the end of her marriage to Dr. Howard Krein, a prominent plastic surgeon. Since divorce filings are sealed in this jurisdiction, the specific circumstances leading to the separation have not been publicly disclosed.

A Marriage That Began Through Family Connection

Biden and Krein exchanged vows in June 2012 in Greenville, Delaware, after being introduced by Ashley’s late brother Beau approximately two years earlier. The couple maintained a relatively private family life throughout their marriage.

Ashley previously shared details about the wedding during the 2024 Democratic National Convention, describing how her father took an active role in the celebration. “At the time, my dad was vice president, but he was also that dad who literally set up the entire reception,” she recalled while introducing Joe Biden to the convention audience.
