BREAKING NEWS! Sad news just confirmed the passing of…

Search crews recovered three bodies following a mudslide near Lillooet, British Columbia, while authorities ended their active search for one remaining missing person after exhausting available options.

The mudslide struck the region as southern British Columbia experienced extreme rainfall, flooding and multiple landslides that caused extensive damage across the area. A fourth body, a woman, had been recovered from another affected location in the region.

Search and Recovery Efforts

Search teams faced significant obstacles throughout their operation, contending with unstable ground, severe weather conditions and the ongoing risk of additional landslides. “Difficult weather and hazardous terrain presented substantial obstacles for investigators and search teams,” B.C. RCMP Staff Sgt. Janelle Shoihet said.

Authorities continued search efforts through Friday before determining that all available options had been exhausted. Chief Coroner Lisa Lapointe said teams persisted in their attempts to locate the remaining missing person despite the challenging conditions.

Victim Identification and Investigation

The identities of the three deceased men have not yet been released publicly. Officials are working to formally identify the victims and notify their families before disclosing further details.

The BC Coroners Service is investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths and examining whether lessons can be identified to reduce risks from similar disasters. Authorities have not yet established a timeline for determining the full scope of the incident’s impact.

Highway Closure and Regional Impact

The affected section of Highway 99, a major transportation link through the region, remains closed to motorists. Authorities have not announced a firm date for reopening the highway.
