A new NBC News poll shows President Donald Trump holding a 100% approval rating among voters who identify with the Make America Great Again movement, a rare and striking political metric.
CNN political analyst Harry Enten highlighted the finding during an appearance on CNN News Central, describing it as a data point that immediately captured attention. The figure underscores near-total alignment within a significant segment of the Republican base.
The Polling Data
Enten compared Trump’s approval standing among MAGA voters to the 1972 Miami Dolphins, the only NFL team to achieve a perfect season and win the Super Bowl. “Sometimes you look at the polling data and there are numbers that just jump off the screen at you,” Enten said. “And this is one of those.”
The analyst noted a critical distinction within Republican voters. “Now, there are some Republicans who disapprove of Donald John Trump, but they are not members of the make America great again movement,” Enten said. “The bottom line is this: if you are a member of MAGA, you approve of Donald Trump.”
Growth of the Movement
CNN anchor Sara Sidner asked whether recent military operations and criticism from some pro-Trump commentators signaled weakening support within the base. Enten’s data suggested otherwise.
Approximately 30% of Americans now identify with the MAGA movement, up from 28% in November 2024, according to polling Enten cited. “That 100% that Donald Trump has among MAGA GOP, that is not an artifact of MAGA shrinking,” Enten said. “It’s just an indication of how strong Donald Trump’s grip is on that MAGA base.”
Military Action Support
Strong backing extends to Trump’s military operations. A Quinnipiac University poll showed 85% of Republicans support military action against Iran, while a YouGov-Economist poll found 91% of MAGA voters support the effort.
Some high-profile Trump allies, including Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, publicly criticized the operation. However, polling data continued to show robust support among core supporters for Trump’s policies and military decisions.
Long-Term Movement Outlook
Enten warned Democrats in February that the MAGA movement will persist beyond Trump’s time in office. When asked about the movement’s long-term influence on the Republican Party, Enten emphasized the distinction between Trump and the broader political force he represents. “It’s not just about Donald Trump. It’s about the Make America Great Again movement. That’s what we’re talking about,” Enten said.
