Kai Trump, the 17-year-old granddaughter of former President Donald Trump, shared personal details about their family relationship during a speech at the 2024 Republican National Convention.

Kai Madison Trump, born in New York in 2007 to Donald Trump Jr. and Vanessa Trump, appeared at the convention to discuss family moments rather than political topics. Her remarks offered a window into private moments between the former president and his eldest grandchild.

What She Said About Her Grandfather

Kai challenged public perception of her grandfather during her convention speech. “The media makes my grandpa seem like a different person. But I know him for who he is. He is very caring and loving,” she said.

She described specific family instances that illustrated their bond. “When I made the high honor roll, he printed it out to show his friends how proud he was of me,” Kai said, offering an example of his support for her achievements.

Golf emerged as a central element of their relationship. “It’s a stiff competition… he always gives me a run for my money,” she said of their matches together, noting that he typically wins.

Her Own Accomplishments

Kai developed competitive golf skills of her own, moving to Florida to attend a school focused on elite golfers. She won a ladies’ club championship at one of Trump’s golf courses and committed to joining the University of Miami women’s golf team.

“Golf has always been a massive part of my life… I always aspire to be a leader on and off the course,” she stated during her remarks.

Life Beyond the Political Spotlight

Despite her family’s prominence, Kai emphasized maintaining a typical teenage existence. “I fit in with everyone else. You would not know at all-and that’s the way I like to keep it,” she said.

She reflected on a recent family gathering with her grandfather as an emotional experience. “It was really special… we got a little teary-eyed, both of us. I’ll never forget that,” Kai said.
