The U.S. Navy concluded a 102-hour search operation in the Arabian Sea after an MH-60S Sea Hawk helicopter made an emergency landing, with one sailor missing and four others rescued.

The helicopter, based on the USS George H.W. Bush aircraft carrier, went down around 3:30 a.m. ET on Wednesday in waters within U.S. Central Command’s area of responsibility. Four crew members were pulled from the water and survived, though three sustained injuries during the emergency landing.

Search and Rescue Effort

The U.S. Navy and Air Force conducted an extensive coordinated operation spanning more than 14,000 square miles of open ocean. “For more than 102 hours, an extensive and coordinated search and rescue effort spanning over 14,000 square miles was conducted,” the U.S. 5th Fleet said in a statement.

The missing sailor’s name is being withheld pending family notification, which follows standard military protocol for casualty notifications. According to Fox News, three of the four recovered crew members were in stable condition aboard the aircraft carrier.

Ongoing Investigation

Military officials said there is no evidence that hostile action caused the emergency landing, though the cause remains under investigation. The MH-60S Sea Hawk performs multiple roles including combat support, logistics, search and rescue, and special operations across naval aviation operations.

The incident marks the 14th confirmed American service member killed in the conflict with Iran, according to reporting. The casualty represents the continuing operational tempo in a volatile region spanning the Arabian Sea, Strait of Hormuz, and broader Central Command territory.
