Ashley Biden, the 44-year-old daughter of former President Joe Biden, filed for divorce from her husband of 13 years in Philadelphia on Monday.

Biden filed the paperwork in Philadelphia’s Court of Common Pleas, according to records. The specific reason for the separation has not been disclosed, as divorce filings in Philadelphia are not made public.

On the same day as the filing, Biden posted to Instagram a photograph of herself walking through a park while giving a thumbs up, accompanied by Beyoncé’s song “Freedom.” She also shared a message stating, “New life, new beginnings, means new boundaries. New ways of being that won’t look or sound like they did before.”

The Marriage

Ashley Biden married her husband in Greenville, Delaware, in June 2012, two years after being introduced by her late brother, Beau Biden. She publicly acknowledged the marriage while presenting her father at the Democratic National Convention last year.

“At the time, my dad was vice president, but he was also that dad who literally set up the entire reception,” she told the crowd. “He was riding around in his John Deere 4-wheeler, fixing the place settings, arranging the plants, and by the way, he was very emotional.”

The news comes as former President Joe Biden faces separate scrutiny regarding his final months in office. House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer said his investigation into Biden’s mental acuity could be used to challenge some of his pardons and executive orders.

Comer told Just the News that Biden’s frequent use of an autopen to sign documents raises legal questions. “It’s questionable whether or not it’s legal to use an autopen on a legal document, but what’s not questionable is if the President of the United States had no idea what was being signed,” Comer said.

The Kentucky Republican suggested that evidence from the investigation could potentially support legal challenges to Biden’s clemency decisions. Biden dropped out of the 2024 presidential race in July following his debate performance and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris.
