White House Physician: Trump Has Common Circulatory Condition,.#@

White House physician Dr. Sean Barbabella disclosed that President Trump has chronic venous insufficiency, a common circulatory condition affecting the veins in his lower legs.

The diagnosis came after Trump underwent a comprehensive vascular examination that included ultrasound imaging of both legs. Barbabella found no signs of deep vein thrombosis or arterial disease, and stated that Trump “remains in excellent health.”

Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt described the condition as benign and noted it is “particularly common in individuals over the age of 70.” She added that the president experiences no discomfort from the condition and continues working regularly.

What the Condition Involves

Chronic venous insufficiency occurs when damaged vein valves in the legs fail to effectively return blood to the heart, causing blood to pool in the lower extremities. According to the Cleveland Clinic, this pooling increases pressure in leg veins and can lead to bruising, skin discoloration, and tissue damage over time.

Dr. Niten Singh, a vascular surgeon at the University of Washington, explained the mechanism: “The veins, particularly in the lower extremity, are very thin walled structures and they have valves so that when you stand up, all the blood doesn’t rush to your feet, these valves close, but over time these valves can become dysfunctional.”

The Society for Vascular Surgery reports the condition affects as many as 40% of Americans, with higher prevalence among women and middle-aged or older adults.

Details of the Examination

The vascular studies included bilateral lower extremity intravenous doppler ultrasounds, which revealed the chronic venous insufficiency diagnosis. Leavitt noted the examination was comprehensive but did not specify the exact date it was conducted.

Earlier this year, Trump’s April annual physical exam found that “blood flow to his extremities is unimpaired” and concluded he “remains in excellent health.” The current diagnosis was not previously disclosed in that report.

Leavitt also addressed recent photos showing bruising on the president’s hands, attributing it to frequent handshakes and his regular use of aspirin, which he takes to help prevent cardiovascular issues.

Public Response

Social media users offered varied reactions to the health disclosure. Some praised the Trump administration for transparency regarding the president’s medical status, contrasting it with previous administrations.

One commenter noted the contrast in public attention: “Funny everyone is so concerned about [the] health of the president who plays golf and does regular press briefings but no one seemed to care about the guy who wandered off into the Amazon and needed help from the Easter rabbit.”

Others highlighted Trump’s age and work schedule as factors to consider, with one user writing: “Excellent medical report, especially for someone who is 78 yrs old and works 60/70 hours a week while carrying a heavy load of pressure and staying positive.”
