Ashley Biden, daughter of former President Joe Biden, has filed for divorce from her husband of 13 years in Pennsylvania.
The 44-year-old submitted divorce documents to Philadelphia’s Court of Common Pleas on Monday, formally ending her marriage to Dr. Howard Krein, a plastic surgeon. Court records in the jurisdiction remain sealed, leaving the specific terms and circumstances of the separation undisclosed at this time.
Biden and Krein married in June 2012 in Greenville, Delaware, after being introduced by Ashley’s late brother Beau roughly two years prior. The couple maintained a private family life throughout their more than a decade together, rarely appearing in public settings.
Public Comments on Marriage
Ashley addressed her wedding during remarks at the 2024 Democratic National Convention, highlighting her father’s hands-on role in the event. “At the time, my dad was vice president, but he was also that dad who literally set up the entire reception,” she said while introducing Joe Biden to convention attendees.
Moving Forward
On the same day news of the filing became public, Ashley posted an Instagram photograph of herself walking through woods with a thumbs-up gesture, set to Beyoncé’s song “Freedom.” She captioned the post with a reflective message about her next chapter: “New life, new beginnings, means new boundaries. New ways of being that won’t look or sound like they did before.”
