Here Who Is Likely To Replace Lindsey Graham – For Now…#@#@

Author:

President Trump recommended that South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster appoint Lindsey Graham’s sister, Darline Graham Nordone, as the state’s interim U.S. senator following Graham’s death.

McMaster’s office announced Monday he would make the formal appointment at 4 p.m. that day. “This would be a fabulous tribute to Lindsey, who loved her dearly,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Graham legally adopted and raised his sister after their parents died in rapid succession when she was a teenager. The two maintained a close relationship throughout his 30-year Senate career.

The Appointment Process

The interim appointment lasts only until the term ends in January. Current reporting suggests Nordone does not intend to run for a full term herself.

A Republican special primary will determine the party’s nominee for the general election against Democrat Annie Andrews in November. The Cook Political Report rates the seat as solidly Republican.

What Comes Next

Candidate filing for the special primary opens July 28. Graham’s death creates a committee vacuum, as he chaired the Senate Budget Committee and was a key voice on foreign policy matters.

Republican leadership faces pressure to fill those roles quickly. The Middle East situation and ongoing reconciliation process demand experienced leadership on both fronts.
