Buckingham Palace rejected a fabricated death announcement attributed to King Charles III that circulated from a Russian news organization on Monday.

The false statement, which included the royal seal and mimicked official palace language, claimed the 75-year-old monarch had died unexpectedly. Palace officials swiftly responded to the TASS news agency, saying “We are happy to confirm that The King is continuing with official and private business.”

The Fake Announcement

The Russian media outlet published a counterfeit royal communications document stating “The King passed away unexpectedly yesterday afternoon.” The forgery included formatting and official insignia designed to appear legitimate.

The incident occurred as speculation mounted about the BBC’s preparation for an unspecified royal announcement. Some reports suggested it could address Princess Kate Middleton’s recovery from abdominal surgery or provide updates on the King’s health.

Charles’ Cancer Diagnosis

Buckingham Palace disclosed on February 5 that Charles had been diagnosed with “a form of cancer” following treatment for an enlarged prostate. Royal reporter Omid Scobie later clarified that the cancer was not prostate-related.

The palace stated that “His Majesty has commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties.” Officials noted he would continue handling state business and official paperwork remotely.

Charles addressed his diagnosis publicly on February 10, saying “I would like to express my most heartfelt thanks for the many messages of support and good wishes I have received in recent days.” He added that hearing from others affected by cancer proved “the greatest comfort and encouragement.”

Current Status

While reducing public appearances, Charles has continued conducting official meetings at Buckingham Palace. Other royal family members have represented the monarchy at external events during his treatment period.
