Leavitt Sets Media Straight With Fact-Check On Joe Biden …#@#

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt defended the Trump administration’s modifications to media access protocols, arguing the changes expanded rather than restricted journalistic coverage.

Leavitt spoke at an event hosted by Axios co-founder Mike Allen, addressing questions about alterations to the White House press pool and wire service positions. The discussion centered on whether the administration’s approach to media access aligns with principles of press independence.

The Access Debate

Allen raised concerns about potential restrictions on major news organizations, specifically referencing wire services that reach global audiences. He asked whether such changes risked losing historical coverage and documentation.

Leavitt countered that thousands of outlets hold White House press credentials and hundreds cover the beat daily. “Why should a single outlet have the privilege of being in that 13 person press pool every single day,” she said, arguing the administration’s changes “created more transparency, more accessibility, and greater access for a broad variety of outlets and a diversity of journalists.”

The Correspondents Association Response

Allen pressed further, citing a White House Correspondents Association statement asserting that government should not control independent media coverage. Leavitt rejected the premise, stating that a small group of journalists should not dictate Oval Office access.

“There should be equal access for all outlets,” Leavitt said, adding that the administration continues allowing outlets it characterizes as critical while expanding spots for additional voices. “It’s not about ideology. It’s just about increasing the wide variety of outlets that have access.”

Biden Comparison

Leavitt contrasted the current administration’s media engagement with the previous presidency. A 2024 Axios investigation found President Joe Biden conducted only 164 press conferences and media interviews through July, the lowest count among the last seven presidents at comparable points in their terms.

Trump conducted 468 such interactions, according to the analysis. George W. Bush recorded 248 and Ronald Reagan 262 at similar stages.
