Trump border czar Tom Homan criticized a Texas Democratic candidate who suggested converting an ICE detention center into a prison for certain groups.

Homan made the comments Thursday during an appearance on Fox News Channel’s “Jesse Watters Primetime.” The remarks came after Texas Democrat Maureen Galindo said she would convert the Karnes ICE Detention Center into a prison for American Zionists and former ICE officers if elected.

What Homan Said

Homan called Galindo’s statement problematic and said the Trump administration would continue enforcing immigration laws as written. “She wants to lock them up alongside of Jewish men and women in this country, that’s what it sounds like,” Homan said. “She’s obviously an idiot.”

Homan pushed back against what he characterized as threats from Democratic officials. “I’m sick of the threats from some of these out-of-touch Democrats,” he said. “We’re not making this up, and we’re going to keep enforcing law.”

The border czar highlighted immigration enforcement numbers under the Trump administration. “We’ve got the most secure border in history of this nation because of President Trump’s leadership. We have record arrests, record removals,” Homan stated.

Democratic Response

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries distanced himself from Galindo’s remarks. House Speaker Mike Johnson, a Louisiana Republican, also weighed in when asked about GOP involvement in amplifying the comments.

“I don’t know anything about it, except that these crazy comments surfaced yesterday, and a number of people sent it to me, and I thought this is a perfect example of where the Democratic Party is going,” Johnson said.
