King Charles III and Queen Camilla received a ceremonial welcome featuring a 21-gun salute upon their arrival in Washington, D.C. for a state visit hosted by President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump.
The British royal couple landed at the White House on April 27 for the official state visit. The ceremonial reception took place with the Washington Monument visible in the background as military honors were rendered.
Following the initial welcome, the group gathered in the Green Room for informal tea before Trump held a private meeting with King Charles to discuss bilateral relations between the United States and United Kingdom. Meanwhile, Melania and Queen Camilla hosted an educational workshop for local students.
State Dinner and Congressional Address
The evening concluded with a lavish state dinner featuring multiple courses. The menu included a hearts of palm salad with garden herb velouté for the first course, followed by handcrafted spring herb ravioli filled with creamy ricotta and morels.
The main course featured Dover sole meunière in brown butter with spring ramps, snow peas, and layered potatoes pavé. Dessert consisted of a beehive-shaped chocolate gâteau with vanilla bean crémeux custard and crème fraîche ice cream, served with White House honey.
The White House selected wines to “complement the menu while honouring the shared heritage and enduring friendship between the United States and the United Kingdom.” King Charles later delivered a speech to Congress during the visit.
Focus on Bilateral Relations
The state visit marked an opportunity for senior officials from both nations to strengthen diplomatic ties. Trump’s private meeting with the King focused on UK-US relations and matters of mutual interest.
The visit included cultural and educational components beyond formal ceremonies and dinners. The workshop hosted by Melania and Queen Camilla engaged local students in educational programming.
