Ashley Biden, daughter of former President Joe Biden, filed for divorce from her husband of 13 years in Philadelphia on Monday.

Biden submitted the divorce paperwork to Philadelphia’s Court of Common Pleas, according to court records. The couple married in Greenville, Delaware, in June 2012, after being introduced by her late brother, Beau Biden.

The specific grounds for the separation have not been made public, as Philadelphia divorce filings remain sealed from public disclosure. On the day of the filing, Biden posted to Instagram a photograph of herself in a park with a thumbs up gesture, set to Beyoncé’s “Freedom.”

“New life, new beginnings, means new boundaries. New ways of being that won’t look or sound like they did before,” she wrote in an accompanying message.

The Marriage and Public Life

Ashley Biden acknowledged her marriage publicly while introducing her father at the Democratic National Convention in August. “At the time, my dad was vice president, but he was also that dad who literally set up the entire reception,” she told the crowd.

She recounted that her father had ridden around the reception site on a John Deere 4-wheeler, adjusting place settings and arranging plants. “By the way, he was very emotional,” she added.

The divorce filing comes as former President Joe Biden faces separate scrutiny regarding his final months in office. House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer announced his investigation into Biden’s mental acuity could be used to challenge some of his pardons and executive orders.

Comer told Just the News that Biden’s use of an autopen to sign documents raises legal questions. “It’s questionable whether or not it’s legal to use an autopen on a legal document, but what’s not questionable is if the President of the United States had no idea what was being signed,” Comer said.

The Kentucky Republican suggested that findings from the investigation could potentially support legal challenges to Biden’s clemency decisions.
