An armed individual opened fire near Vice President JD Vance’s motorcade in Washington, D.C., prompting Secret Service to return fire and resulting in a juvenile being transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident occurred at 15th Street and Independence Avenue, just minutes after Vance had departed the area. The White House was briefly secured following the shooting.

According to Secret Service Deputy Director Mathew C. Quinn, the confrontation involved an armed individual and Secret Service Police officers. “The incident resulted from a confrontation between an armed individual and Secret Service Police,” a Secret Service statement said. No law enforcement officers were injured in the exchange.

The Investigation

The shooting comes approximately one week after a separate incident at a high-profile event in the nation’s capital. Cole Tomas Allen, 31, of Torrance, California, was accused of entering the Washington Hilton armed with multiple weapons while President Trump attended a dinner Saturday evening.

“He attempted to assassinate the president of the United States, Donald J. Trump,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Jocelyn Ballantine told the court. Allen was charged following the Saturday incident.

What Comes Next

Officials indicated that additional charges may be filed as the investigation progresses. “Cole Allen’s journey of accountability in the criminal justice system starts today,” a law enforcement official said at a Monday press conference. “There will be additional charges as this investigation continues to unfold.”
