Comer is expected to assert that both Walz and Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison were aware of vulnerabilities in state-administered federal programs years before publicly acknowledging the scale of the issue. He intends to frame the situation as a failure of leadership, claiming delays in response contributed to substantial financial losses. “While Governor Walz hesitated, taxpayers lost billions,” Comer is set to say, while also questioning Ellison’s past statements about aggressively pursuing fraud cases.

The report suggests that public acknowledgment of these issues came significantly later than internal awareness.
Federal investigations have already led to charges against multiple individuals connected to the nonprofit Feeding Our Future. Prosecutors allege that more than $240 million was fraudulently taken from a federal child nutrition program. Authorities have since broadened their inquiries to include other state-run programs, including Medicaid and childcare assistance systems.
Comer is expected to describe the situation as one of the most serious oversight failures the committee has encountered.
