The disappearance of Savannah Guthrie’s 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, has remained a troubling mystery for more than a month. Despite a $1 million reward and extensive searches, investigators have struggled to determine exactly what happened. Recently, however, new evidence released by the Federal Bureau of Investigation has renewed attention on the case.
Nancy was last seen on the evening of January 31 after visiting her daughter Annie. Annie’s husband drove her back to her home in the Catalina Foothills area of Tucson, watching as she walked into her house through the garage. It appeared to be a normal end to a family visit, but it would become the final confirmed sighting of Nancy.
Concern quickly grew the next morning when Nancy failed to attend her usual virtual church service. Family members reported her missing later that day, and investigators soon discovered signs that something was terribly wrong. Authorities believe Nancy disappeared within a 41-minute window during the early hours of February 1.
Evidence at the home raised serious alarm. Nancy’s doorbell camera reportedly went offline at 1:47 a.m., and her pacemaker later disconnected from her phone. When relatives arrived at the house, they found her phone, wallet, medications, and hearing aid still inside. Investigators also discovered signs of forced entry and blood on the porch, which DNA tests confirmed belonged to Nancy.
The investigation took a new turn when surveillance footage revealed a masked man near Nancy’s property days before she vanished. The man appeared to attempt to block the camera with branches, suggesting the crime may have been carefully planned. Authorities believe he may have been watching the home for some time.
Investigators continue to analyze evidence, including a backpack believed to be sold at Walmart, while also reviewing tips from the public. Meanwhile, Savannah Guthrie has urged anyone with information to come forward, holding onto hope that her mother will be found.
