Kirk was responding to an audience question about mass shootings when gunfire erupted at the event. Witnesses reported hearing multiple shots as attendees screamed and rushed toward exits, with video footage showing Kirk collapsing beneath a tent bearing the words “The American Comeback.”
What Happened
The shooting occurred during a public speaking engagement where Kirk addressed students and community members. Authorities later determined the shooter fired from the Losee Center building, approximately 200 yards from where Kirk stood.
Initial confusion at the scene led law enforcement to briefly detain a bystander before identifying the actual shooter’s location. No injuries beyond Kirk were reported among the crowd, though many attendees experienced trauma from the incident.
