Secret Service officers moved reporters into the White House briefing room Thursday after a man jumped over a security barrier near the Treasury Building, triggering a security alert at the complex.

The incident occurred shortly after 11:30 a.m. local time when the individual breached a construction bollard on the northeast side of the Treasury Building adjacent to the White House grounds. Uniformed Secret Service police officers quickly detained the man, and one officer sustained a non-life-threatening cut during the physical altercation.

What Happened

Secret Service Communications Chief Anthony Guglielmi confirmed that the man was apprehended immediately after jumping the barrier. Both the suspect and the injured officer were transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation.

Washington bureau chief of Deutsche Welle Ines Pohl documented the response by posting a photograph of an officer running outside the White House perimeter. The identity of the suspect has not been released to the public.

Security Response and Investigation

The incident prompted heightened security measures at the White House complex, resulting in the relocation of press personnel to the briefing room as a precautionary measure. The Secret Service has not disclosed additional details about the nature of the security alert or any potential threats.

This latest breach follows a separate incident days earlier when another individual attempted to enter the White House grounds through a similar method, forcing Secret Service officers to physically subdue the person.

Broader Agency Review

The incident occurs as the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Inspector General conducts a comprehensive review of Secret Service operations. The investigation examines the agency’s response to two assassination attempts against former President Donald Trump, with multiple reports in final stages pending completion.
