President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were forced to switch helicopters during a Marine One flight in the United Kingdom after pilots detected a hydraulics issue.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the pilots landed at a local airfield “out of an abundance of caution” before reaching Stansted Airport. Trump and Melania safely boarded a support helicopter to complete their journey, which took approximately 40 minutes instead of the scheduled 20 minutes.

State Visit Details

The Trumps were in the UK for an official state visit hosted by King Charles III and Queen Camilla. The visit focused on a major investment agreement between the two nations, with Prime Minister Keir Starmer announcing a £250 billion mutual investment package.

Trump spent the morning at Windsor Castle before traveling by Marine One to Chequers, the prime minister’s country residence, for meetings on policy and business matters.

Economic Partnership Announced

Trump and Starmer unveiled what Starmer called a “tech-prosperity deal” aimed at strengthening bilateral economic ties. “This will create new government, academic, and private sector cooperation in areas such as AI, quantum computing, fusion, 6G, and civil nuclear energy,” Trump said at a business reception.

The agreement has already spurred over $350 billion in private sector deals, including a $136 billion commitment from Blackstone. A partnership between American company X Energy and British firm Centrica will deploy modular nuclear reactors across the UK, expected to generate more than $50 billion in economic value and create up to 2,500 jobs.

Return to Washington

Trump returned to the White House on Friday following the week-long international trip. The president emphasized the importance of energy infrastructure to support technological advancement between the two nations.
