Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard announced her resignation Friday to care for her husband, who has been diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer.
Gabbard shared her resignation letter on X, stating that her husband Abraham was recently diagnosed with what she described as “an extremely rare form of bone cancer.” She said the diagnosis requires her to step away from her role in the Trump administration.
The Resignation Details
In her announcement, Gabbard thanked President Donald Trump for the opportunity to lead the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. “I must step away from public service to be by his side and fully support him through this battle,” she wrote.
Gabbard informed Trump of her decision before releasing the resignation letter. Her final day in the position is set for June 30.
What Comes Next
The resignation marks another departure from the Trump administration’s leadership ranks. Trump will need to nominate a replacement for the intelligence position, which requires Senate confirmation.
