King Charles III and Queen Camilla will travel to the United States from late April through early May for a six-day official visit that includes a historic address to Congress and a White House state dinner.

The British royal couple’s trip comes during heightened tensions between President Trump and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer over tariffs and military operations in the Middle East. The visit marks a significant moment in the transatlantic relationship as the United States celebrates its 250th anniversary of independence.

The Washington Portion

The itinerary begins April 27 in Washington, D.C., where King Charles will address a joint session of Congress on April 28. This makes him only the second British monarch to achieve this honor, following Queen Elizabeth II’s 1991 address.

House Speaker Mike Johnson said in a statement that the address represents the historic partnership between the two nations. “Our two nations share one of the most consequential partnerships in history, and together we will mark the historic milestone of America’s 250th year of independence,” Johnson wrote on X.

Following the congressional address, President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump will host a state dinner at the White House for the royal couple. Trump acknowledged the visit’s significance, writing on Truth Social that the occasion would be “TERRIFIC” and noting his respect for the King.

The New York and Virginia Stops

After Washington, the couple will travel to New York City, where King Charles will visit a community organization focused on sustainable urban farming. Queen Camilla will attend an event celebrating the centennial of the Winnie the Pooh series.

Both royals will also meet with families of 9/11 victims during the New York portion of the trip, marking the approaching 25th anniversary of the attacks.

The final leg brings them to a national park in Virginia, where King Charles will meet with members of indigenous communities and conservationists. Queen Camilla will visit a farm connected to the horse racing industry to celebrate the sport’s shared history between the two countries.

The couple will conclude with attendance at a “block party” in Virginia celebrating America’s 250th birthday.

What Comes Next

Following the U.S. trip, King Charles will continue alone to Bermuda, becoming the first reigning British monarch to visit an overseas British territory.
