Secret Service Investigates Gunfire Near White House: Report

The U.S. Secret Service is investigating reports of overnight gunfire near Lafayette Square, located across from the White House. No injuries were reported, and no suspect was found after authorities searched the park and surrounding area. Donald Trump was inside the White House at the time, and while operations continued normally, security in the area was heightened. The Secret Service is working with the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia and the U.S. Park Police as the investigation continues.

At the same time, international tensions involving the United States and Iran remain a major concern. The two sides agreed to a temporary two-week ceasefire just before a deadline set by the U.S. government to escalate attacks on Iran’s infrastructure. JD Vance, speaking alongside Viktor Orbán in Hungary, said the U.S. expected a clear response from Iran and emphasized the importance of stable global energy supplies. He warned that further action could be taken if Iran continues what he described as economic disruptions.

A key issue in the conflict is the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global oil shipments. Trump stated that Iran allowed additional oil tankers to pass through the strait, describing it as progress in negotiations. Before the conflict, the strait carried about one-third of the world’s oil exports, but traffic has dropped sharply, disrupting global markets.

Trump also issued strong warnings that Iran must reopen the strait or reach a broader agreement, threatening severe consequences if it fails to comply. While U.S. officials see tanker movement as a positive sign, Iran has downplayed it as routine trade, leaving uncertainty about whether the situation will stabilize.
