Texas Rep. Steve Toth Defeats Dan Crenshaw in GOP Primary….#

In a notable shift within the Republican Party, State Representative Steve Toth defeated four-term incumbent Dan Crenshaw in the GOP primary for Texas’s 2nd Congressional District, a Houston-area seat long considered safely Republican. The Associated Press confirmed Toth’s victory after he maintained a steady lead throughout the night, effectively ending Crenshaw’s congressional tenure and positioning Toth as the likely winner in the general election.

The race became a proxy battle over the ideological direction of the Republican Party. Toth ran as a staunch MAGA-aligned conservative, arguing that Crenshaw had drifted from the party’s grassroots base. He emphasized his own record as one of the most conservative lawmakers in the Texas House and pledged to “stand firm” on campaign promises. Crenshaw, once a rising national figure, struggled to counter a surge of populist momentum among primary voters.

Despite outspending Toth by roughly $1.3 million, Crenshaw faced strong opposition from influential conservative figures and groups. Toth secured backing from Senator Ted Cruz and Turning Point Action, signaling a broader shift within Texas GOP politics. Notably, Governor Greg Abbott has also been a target of Toth’s criticism, reflecting internal party tensions.

Key issues contributed to Crenshaw’s defeat. His rejection of claims of widespread fraud in the 2020 election alienated parts of the GOP base, as did the absence of an endorsement from Donald Trump. Additionally, campaign attacks over congressional stock trading added to voter concerns about accountability.

In his concession, Crenshaw cited misinformation and “clickbait” narratives as factors in his loss. Toth’s victory highlights a growing preference among Republican primary voters for candidates closely aligned with populist priorities, signaling a continuing transformation within the party.
