Earlier reports suggested he had been arrested, but the Pima County Sheriff’s Department clarified that no arrest has been made and no charges have been filed. Officials emphasized that the interview was part of routine investigative procedures and does not indicate wrongdoing.

Nancy Guthrie was last seen on the evening of January 31, 2026, after having dinner with her daughter and son-in-law in Tucson, Arizona. According to investigators, Cioni drove her home around 9:45 p.m. and waited until she entered safely before leaving. The following day, she was reported missing after failing to attend church and not responding to calls.

Authorities later discovered concerning evidence at her residence. A security camera had been disconnected during the early morning hours, and small amounts of blood found near the entrance were confirmed to belong to Guthrie. Additionally, her pacemaker data showed a disruption shortly after 2:00 a.m. Investigators say these findings led them to treat the case as a possible abduction, though no conclusions have been reached.

Sheriff Chris Nanos stated that interviewing individuals close to the missing person is standard practice and that no suspects have been identified. Officials also addressed reports of ransom messages, confirming that some communications are under investigation. In a separate case, a California man was arrested for allegedly sending fraudulent ransom messages unrelated to the disappearance.

The FBI has joined the investigation and is offering a $50,000 reward for information. Search efforts, including K-9 units, drones, and forensic analysis, are ongoing. Authorities urge the public to rely on verified information and report any credible tips as the investigation continues.
