Criminal Defense Attorney Calls Repeated Arrests Without Detentions In Guthrie Case ‘Strange’…

Author:

The disappearance of 84-year-old **Nancy Guthrie**, mother of media personality **Savannah Guthrie**, from her **Tucson** home two weeks ago remains fraught with unanswered questions despite intense law enforcement efforts. While sources confirmed multiple individuals were detained following a search warrant executed near her residence late Friday, **Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos** clarified that all were released and no arrests have been made. Criminal defense attorney **Donna Rotunno** criticized this procedural move, calling the flurry of detentions followed by immediate releases “strange” and indicative of an unusual “back-and-forth law enforcement volleying” between local authorities and the **FBI**. She noted the critical difference between detainment (reasonable suspicion) and arrest (probable cause).

Sheriff **Nanos** revealed critical evidence collected at the scene: investigators recovered **DNA** that conclusively does *not* belong to **Nancy Guthrie**. This key biological evidence is currently undergoing analysis at a contracted forensic laboratory in **Florida**, with authorities collecting elimination markers to narrow the source. The **FBI** has since intensified the search by raising its reward to **$100,000** for information leading to her location or the conviction of those involved. Authorities have identified a suspect seen tampering with the doorbell camera on February 1, described as a male carrying an **Ozark Trail Hiker Pack**. Despite the developments and forensic testing, **Nanos** maintains the operation is still focused on finding **Guthrie** alive, referring to it as a “rescue mission.”
